Tuscany vs Piedmont wine regions!

Everybody knows or has seen pictures of the stunning Tuscan rolling hills with picturesque stone farmhouses and vineyards. However, very few people know that Piedmont can offer the same extraordinary experience and it is cheaper and less crowded.

Piedmont is a region north west of Italy and its vineyards stretch between the Alps from the north and the Apennines from the south. I am familiar with the Langhe/Monferrato area as it is bordering my region of Liguria. How incredible it is that it only takes a couple of hours to go from swimming in the sea to sipping your favorite wine on the rolling hills!!!

In the magnificent scenery of the Langhe and Monferrato the great Italian wines of Piedmont, Barolo and Barbaresco, are produced. This seductive landscapes has become…guess what?! Part of the World Heritage List of Unesco.

Not only can you visit wineries and local farms but you can stroll in picturesque villages where the medieval layout is still intact. The area is also known for the castles often perched on top of hills where you can enjoy a breathtaking view. But, hold on! What am I missing here? Oh yes…the food. Well, I think the Monferrato and Langhe cuisines are one of the best in Italy. They can top your outstanding fresh pasta dish with fresh truffle. What else do you need!!!

  1. Che bella idea! Ci sono così tante regioni in Italia da visitare. Ho letto di Piemonte e della influenza francese; però più io so, più sono curioso. La prossima fermata Torino con un bicerin!
