On the east corner of Italy, there is a mountain range called Dolomiti.
They are special because of their color when hit by the sun. The incredible pink glow at dawn and sunset is due to their components of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. The Dolomites have been listed UNESCO World Heritage in 2009. One of the most famous section is the Three Peaks also called the Tre Cime di Lavaredo (in Italian). They are distinctive battlement-like peaks. The area is a paradise for hikers. On a gorgeous day of July, we walked a 4 hours loop route. The views were stunning at every corner. We came across 3 rifugi (mountain huts/restaurants/hotels). We stopped to eat at the Locatelli refuge. We deserved a delicious meal to refuel our energy and the view from our table was breathtaking. Dolomiti are very popular nowadays, so it is better to choose a shoulder season like June or September or be prepared to walk with hundreds of people.
